The libraries that make up the King County Library System (KCLS) in Washington State serve as vital humanities resources within their community and are trusted, welcoming spaces throughout the region.

KCLS will develop a Climate Action Plan for all 50 of its locations. KCLS will use NEH Climate Smart funds to perform comprehensive energy audits and risk assessments of its library buildings and mobile outreach services vehicles. The audits will identify land, infrastructure and operational improvements that will not only increase climate resiliency, but lower future maintenance costs as well.

KCLS connects Washington residents to humanities institutions throughout the state by offering museum and park passes, Makerspace classes, and educational programming along with access to its collection of books, music, and movies. Its Climate Action Plan will ensure that KCLS libraries can continue to serve its communities for decades to come.
