Claudia Kinkela

Claudia Kinkela is Assistant Director in the Division of Research. She has served as the team lead for the NEH Fellowships Program for fifteen years. She received her PhD in political science from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. Her research interests include political theory, European history, and the history of philosophy. Before coming to the Endowment, Claudia taught at the University of Cologne, Germany, and at Duke University, Georgetown University, and American University. She is the author of Dolf Sternberger's Concept of Citizenship and Contemporary German Political Thought (Koenigshausen & Neumann, 2001, in German), which traces the efforts of intellectual renewal in post-World War II Germany.
