Who Was Clara Barton?

In honor of Women's History Month and Red Cross Month, the Woodbridge Public Library is proud to host accomplished actor Pat Jordan, of the American Historical Theatre, as she embodies Clara Barton in a walk through her life's achievements in "Angel of the Battlefield" at the Woodbridge Main Library on March 11 at 7PM. 

Clara Barton was a strong-willed, intelligent individual who knew what she wanted and found ways to accomplish her goals. Characterized as self-directed and compassionate, as a young girl she would nurse wounded birds and cats, as well as her friends' injured pets. Later, Barton was the first person to start a public school in Hightstown, NJ, growing it from 6 to almost 600 students. During the American Civil War, she headed for the front lines, taking supplies to wounded soldiers and earning the title "Angel of the Battlefield." Barton founded and established the first chapter of the American Red Cross. Barton's example of indomitable strength, dogged determination and boundless good will is a model for all Americans.
