West Point prof awarded grant for book project

Elizabeth Samet, a professor in West Point’s Department of English and Philosophy, was recently awarded a public scholar grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Samet received the grant for her project, “The Nine Lives of Alexander,” a biography that explores the many-sided myths of the man commonly known as Alexander the Great.

The public scholar program supports the creation of well-researched books in the humanities that are intended to reach a broad readership. While some humanities scholarship is necessarily specialized, the field can also engage broad audiences in exploring subjects of general interest.

Samet has been at West Point since 1997. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in English literature from Yale University.
