‘Teddy Roosevelt’ coming to Wood River
Teddy Roosevelt, the “Rough Rider” president, is headed to Wood River for an appearance on Sunday. Part of the Celebrate Wood River Performing Arts Series, Roosevelt (via re-enactor Darell Draper) will take the stage at Wood River High School at 2:30 p.m.
Draper, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Roosevelt, portrays the 26th president in an educational and entertaining fashion. Roosevelt, with his energetic personality and “cowboy” image, touted achievements as naturalist, explorer, hunter, author and soldier that are as much a part of his fame as the political offices he held.
Draper’s humor and knowledge of history have made him one of the most requested speakers of the Nebraska Humanities Council’s Speakers Bureau Program. This program is open to the public and there is no admission charge, thanks to the Wood River Community Foundation/Donna Lee Moyer Performing Arts gift, and Humanities Nebraska which receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
