An Open Book Prime Time reading program places value on family conversation

When Angel Payne first told her two daughters in early March about Prime Time Family Reading, they were not looking forward to participating.  Six weeks later, and the girls groaned because they were attending their last reading session at Sorgho Elementary School.

"They read at home so much, at first, they didn't want to do it at school," Payne said. "Now they say they will be sad it is over. They have really enjoyed it."

Prime Time Family Reading is the award-winning literacy program that Cravens and Newton Parrish elementary schools and Deer Park and Sorgho elementary schools have been a part of this spring.

The program came to the district in partnership with Kentucky Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities, with the Owensboro Public Schools program in cooperation with the William and Marilyn Young Foundation, and the Daviess County Public Schools program being funded in part from the Hager Foundation.
