Historian to talk horse history at Jackson Hole Historical Society

“In putting together this series we wanted to bring to Jackson leading scholars of the ‘animal turn’ in environmental history who also happen to be dedicated to reaching general audiences. Thomas G. Andrews, a professor of history at the University of Colorado-Boulder, fits the bill perfectly,” local historian, Dr. Sherry Smith said.

She noted that Thomas recently received a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship to write “An Animal History of the United States” for public, rather than academic, audiences.

The goal of the Historical Society’s series is to provide historical context to issues still faced today. Today’s program will share a history of how horses were introduced and used by Native Americans and how that culture still guides communities, wildlife conservation and environmental discussion today.
