Filmmaker Laurie Coyle featured at Porterville College event

A screening of Coyle’s documentary film “ADIOS AMOR: The Search for Maria Moreno” will be held at the event from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, September 13 at the PC Theater, CA-4. A question and answer session with Coyle will also be held at the event.

In ADIOS AMOR, the discovery of lost photographs sparks the search for a hero that history forgot—Maria Moreno, a migrant mother driven to speak out by her 12 children’s hunger. Years before Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta launched the United Farm Workers, Maria picked up the only weapon she had—her voice—and became an outspoken leader in an era when women were relegated to the background. The first farm worker woman in the U.S. to be hired as a union organizer, Maria’s story was silenced and her legacy buried—until now. This one hour documentary will be screened in the campus theater after a brief introduction, followed by an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of Coyle.
