Blues Trail to honor Ferris

Historian and Vicksburg native Dr. William R. Ferris will receive a Mississippi Blues Trail Marker designation Tuesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. in Vicksburg. The marker will be placed on the corner of Grove and Washington Streets. The Mississippi Blues Commission approved the Ferris Mississippi Blues Trail Marker in March.

He is the former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Prior to his role at NEH, Ferris served as the founding director of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi, where he was a faculty member for 18 years.
