READY! for Kindergarten - National Early Childhood Literacy Program
READY! for Kindergarten is a national early childhood literacy program for parents, grandparents and other primary caregivers of children from birth to age five. The program was developed in Kennewick, Washington in the early 2000’s by teachers, parents and early childhood education experts to address the issue of children entering school with low literacy skills. These children, studies have shown, struggle throughout their school years to succeed academically. A major component of the READY! program is an emphasis on the involvement of parents with their infants, toddlers and preschool children at home as they teach essential early literacy skills and regularly read out loud to the children.
The cost is free.
Funded project of the Idaho Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
